King Charles to Address Joint Session of Congress

The invitation is part of the U.S. 250th anniversary of independence from Great Britain.

King Charles III is set to deliver an address to a joint session of Congress. As part of the nation’s 250th anniversary of independence from British rule, House Speaker Mike Johnson, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Senate Majority Leader John Thune, and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer issued the invitation.

“We believe an Address to Congress will provide a unique opportunity to share your vision for the future of our special relationship and reaffirm our alliance at this pivotal time in history,” the four congressional leaders wrote.

“As we celebrate this historic milestone and recommit ourselves to the principles upon which our nation was founded, we also recognize that the American experiment endures in no small part because of the British tradition from which it sprang,” the letter continued.

Queen Elizabeth II, King Charles’ mother, previously addressed a joint session of Congress in 1991.
